//. Suminagashi, meaning “ink floating” is the technique used and is a traditional Japanese marbling method. To create the patterns you drop Sumi ink on the surface of water and manipulate where you’d like the ink to go. You can blow gently on the surface to create smoke like patterns, or move and swirl the ink using brushes and tools, even your own hair. As the ink expands, it is said that they create the fractal look of mountains, rivers, trees and coastlines. It is a very meditative practice and the outcome is always a beautiful surprise. //
